Over the past five years, the U.S. has had\u00a0an average of\u00a0450 fatalities<em> per year<\/em> due to\u00a0ice and snow\u00a0on the roads. In the unlikely event that your car breaks down or you&#8217;re involved in an accident, you&#8217;ll want to be as prepared as possible.<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<header class=\"top-bar top-bar-new\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0\">\n<div class=\"logo\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0.0.0\"><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<header class=\"top-bar top-bar-new\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0\">\n<div class=\"logo\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0.0.0\"><strong>Winter-proof your car.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<header class=\"top-bar top-bar-new\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"logo\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0.0.0\">Visit your local auto mechanic\u00a0and get\u00a0a tune-up. To decrease your chances of breaking down during undesirable weather, you&#8217;ll want to make sure your car is in good condition.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check your tire pressure, oil levels, and wiper fluids regularly&#8211;<em>especially<\/em> right before a snowstorm.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you have plenty of fuel at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Consider adding towing coverage to your policy. (Especially if you don&#8217;t already have a roadside assistance service, like AAA.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"logo\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0.0.0\"><strong>Create an emergency kit. <\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"logo\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0.0.0\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"logo\" data-reactid=\".0.0.0.0.0\">If your car breaks down during a snowstorm, you won&#8217;t regret carrying around that extra gear in your trunk. Don&#8217;t touch either pedal until you&#8217;ve gained control of your car again.<\/li>\n<li>Remain calm.
